I bought this so I could rest my bass against my speaker cab without needing to bring an extra stand and take up more "real estate" than needed.
I am ok with setting the body of my bass on the floor. It stands on the strap button and strap in this position. On a hard floor I might get some wear on the strap button; but that is a minor piece to replace and no problem to me.
My speaker cab is the right height so the Guitar Rest on top grabs the neck pertfectly up against the head.
Only problem was that I felt the rubber material of the guitar rest didnt contact properly on the rough surface of the cab, and I was afraid it would slide ...
I am sure it sits better on a smooth surface like a table or desk.
I solved this easily; I found there screws of the right size and just fastened the guitar rest to the cab permanently.
Even this is not the intended way to use it, it works brilliantly for me! So my rating is five stars if you do as I did. Three stars for stability without my screws :-)
These things are great, I mean really great. I've been gigging with mine now for over a year and it's not let me down yet. Just place it on the edge om my amp. It's non slip so it won't come off unless you are ultra clumsy and rest my bass on it. Saves carrying a heavy metal stand around. Also, when I got mine, because I bought it with some other stuff it was postage free and a lot cheaper than I could buy in the UK. You can not buy from a better music store than Thomann any way. They are such friendly people. Any queries you have if you send them an email you get a reply the next working day. I Love them.
The idea for this is very good but in practice I find too often that the only available surfaces (amps, cabinets, table tops) are either too high or too low to provide a stable support for the guitar neck. I keep one in my guitar case for emergencies but wouldn't leave my guitar stands at home.
I bought this on a whim as a little extra on a bigger order.
I think it's great. I use it in the pub when i'm playing in sessions around a table.
Handy for not loosing your pint too.
It is a really smart product which can be used in situations such as a gig or even at home. It helps you be fast when recording or practicing with a band. My only complain though is that it isn't very stable due to it's lack of weight on the part that rests on the surface but other than that it works just great!
I got rid of all the guitar bases in the room that took up space, I tried this product and it just goes everywhere - it goes everywhere - quite good construction - it does not break - you wash comfortably - there are no negatives ...
The Planet Waves GR-01 guitar rest is a great invention. It is small enough to have it in your guitar case and still very safely holding your guitar. All that is needed is a flat surface on a chair, table, even an amp may do (haven?t tried that as I play acoustic and do not have an amp). It actually needs a certain high to be save but I always found such surfaces. The stand is definitely not meant as a permanent stand. It would work but the clever thing is that you have it always with you. I have it in the drawer of my desk so I can take the guitar there without the need of carrying the actual guitar stand there. Quiet convenient. The price is great, makes a nice present for other guitar players too.
These are a really good idea, as they allow you to turn any edge on a piece of furniture into a guitar stand. The flat circle behind the actual holder is really useful for picks too.
Only downside is that they easily move across the surface you've put them on so guitars can slide sideways unless you put them dead centre of the holder.
Would have been better with some addhesive or more sticky rubber on the bottom. But just have to add this my self. But good value and works as expected.
For non critical situations like when you want to rest your guitar against something but there's nothing soft to hand except a table or a sideboard or even a piano keyboard, which is what mine is doing, then this is fine to hold a guitar upright just as long as there are no people or animals likely to bump into it! Not for the stage but then anyone thinking of using it for that is not really thinking ahead. Takes up hardly any room in a guitar case or gig bag though and has its uses as I say.
