This is one of the last remaining boxes available that can reliably sync your Sync24 devices to midi.
Perfect for syncing Roland TR808, TR909, TB 303 and TR606 and other din sync devicesto midi enabled hardware or your DAW.
Ive been using this to get Midi sync to a TB303 and TR606. The box takes Midi in for Start/Stop and Clock conversion to Sync24 Standard. Has been great for syncing the 303 and 606 to Ableton and allows a lot of this older hardware to be more compatible with todays systems.
It comes with a power supply but can also be powered via the midi in.
This box also offers midi thru so you send sync of to other midi enabled devices.
Both the Sync ports on the MSY 2 require a 5 Pin Din Sync cable that has all 5 pins wired for it to work the the Roland devices
The Doepfer MSY2 is a sturdy and straightforward tool for converting between MIDI and DIN sync connectors. If you use any older Roland instruments that rely on DIN sync then this device is extremely useful for integrating your older machines with newer MIDI equipment. The Clock output is a nice addition, I added a Korg Monotribe to my set up recently and it was very convenient to be able to send the Clock output from the MSY2 into the sync-in on the Monotribe. I had originally planned to modify my Monotribe to accept MIDI but having the Clock from the MSY2 means I've been able to get it up and running with my other machines immediately. If you need to convert between MIDI and DIN sync then the MSY2 does the job very well.
I use this sync my 606 with the rest of my set up, syncing it with ableton's clock, as for timing it is rock solid and also offers multiple clock settings,
As for pros and cons build is basic but very solid metal casing the only thing i would say is the psu is is not very sturdy.
Final comment is that it does what its meant to do and it does it superbly well, experiencing almost no latency from the midi conversion would definitly buy again if i ever come to need another.
