After few years of collecting guitars, I have decided to buy the most expesive electric guitar in my life. I have sold two other Gibsons to buy this one, and needed to add more money.
Is the Gibson LP Custom worth the price? Yes. I can tell like this: Gibson LP Standard is worth the double price of Gibson LP Studio. And the Gibson LP Custom is worth double price of Gibson LP Standard.
Finally I have found a guitar which can fight with my PRS Custom 22 USA core model. But there is more in Gibson LP Custom. Naturally it has great low and of course mid frequences, but there is another thing: high frequencies are the greatest: sharp, cripsy and with long sustain. This guitar is not muddy at all. Sound (especially distortion) is sharp (in good way) and punchy. Sustain of this guitar is incredible, fretwork is flawless, very comfy neck (a little thinner than new LP Standard 50s), high end parts (Grover tuners are incredible).
The visual of this beauty is awesome, iconic head of the neck, beautiful ebony fretboard with mother of pearl inlays, gold hardware, multiply binding – this is really big thing.
Any cons? Yes, there is some quality control issues like binding (was scrapped too deep but in hunderts of mm), and even I have found a permanently fingerprint on the body nitro laquer – Im intrested which worker of Gibson has left his signature.
One word about 490R (neck) and 498T (bridge) pickups – For my playing (hard rock/metal) it is good or the best set for me. And they sound different (much better) than in LP Standard.
Overall – If You think to buy this beauty this is the time. If You have some problems with attention to details (I was, but im still fighting with this nightmare) maybe You need to consider buy another guitar.
If You need very good sounding guitar and a workhorse – this is good choice. For me the Gibson LP Custom is keeper and this guitar will be getting old with me.
