This levelling leg is a very simple but clever design. It is basically just a pole with a cone shaped thread at the top that expands a plastic collet inside the leg of the stand when you rotate the pole thereby fixing the extension firmly at whatever length you require. When not needed it pushes fully into the existing leg.
The most difficult bit of the fitting was actually getting the old rubber feet off the speaker stand as I had glued then in place! Once that was done it was just a case of sliding the pole up inside one of the legs.
The kit also comes with two substantial rubber feet which you fit on the other two legs. These compensate for the slight extra standout of the adjustable leg so that your speaker stand can be used on level surfaces as normal. The whole appearance is very smart.
There is also a clip-on bubble level to help with setting the pole vertical, although I found it much easier to use a separate short spirit level.
The instructions are pretty basic. The kit includes two rubber 'O' rings. These are not mentioned anywhere in the instructions and I could not see where these would be used. My stands were 33mm internal diameter, which is the smallest diameter this leg is designed to fit. Maybe the 'O' rings are to be used with a larger diameter stand, but I could not see quite how they would fit without getting lost inside the leg when you adjust it.
This extension seems really solid when tightened and it has enough adjustment to enable a speaker to be set on a step or uneven ground. Adjustment can be done in a couple of minutes. As with any stand, you need to ensure that the legs are set wide enough to give good stability.
I wish I had seen these years ago - it would have saved me much time messing around with bits of wood!
