I try to use it when I did fix an old guitar of mine.
Pros
The spong is good
Cons
Well most of the tools is just junk.
The fret file is a joke, as it cant even file anything. It looks like a very bad/cheap stuff you buy from wish. After some frets it worn out.
The files are okey, but useless to do anything with the frets or nut.
You can forget to file the nut with them. You can use it to file the side of the nut if you install a new one.
The fretboard covers is to thick. Ended up using tejp instead. Mush better.
No I would not recommend anyone to buy this. Its a waste of money and it a shame Thomann sell this junk as a Luthier repair care kit.
It just don't have the quality that is useful.
This is an absolute waste of time!
A very cheep Chinese kit that you can find on Amazon.
I’ve tried it on home build guitar project and is totally useless!
The fret groove files did wear after a few passes on the fret ends!
The fret-combing file is not so effective. You have to put some effort on it and a lot of passes over the frets to see some results.
The sanding sponge proved to be effective.
So, if you need this kit to round the fret ends, just look elsewhere!
This kit will waste you time and money!
Hi this product I did not find it helpful at all maybe the guards to protect the fretboard for polishing the fritz is about the only thing. The files are utter garbage I don’t even know what you would use them for their sanding material on every side of them. Therefore too large to file any type of nut for a string to course to use on frets. The sponge sander I guess if you had other woodworking projects you needed a sponge sander for. I found the fret crowning tool semi-useful for helping round off the edges of frets.
I struggle to find a use for the files, not a precision set of tools. Maybe you can file down the length or width of your nut with this set, but do not even attempt to file your nut slots with this set of tools. I guess the medium/jumbo fretboard protectors are useful, as well as the fret crowning tool, but that's about it.
The kit surprised me, for the money it is extremely good. Do not expect the nut files to be on par with a say Hosco file but those come at about 20 euro's a piece. The sanding sponge is so good I want a bag of them.
10/10
i initially bought these tools to do a quick toutch up on one of my basses wich had a few high frets, eventually i ended up working the frets of all my basses to a mirror shine with a lovely crown.
the tools are not the most comfortable but what they lack in comfort they easily make up for in usability and the quality of the end product.
to me this set is perfect for those who want to get started with fretwork and not dump a million euros/dollars/pounds/other national currency into their tools and its a great base kit that you can build upon
Decided to try this kit, despite the many negative reviews, because of my positive experience with other HB products. Unfortunately, this time the negative reviews are correct.
This set is OK if you just want to give setting up a (cheap) guitar a go a couple of times. But the tools are very bad quality. So don't expect this kit to last very long.
If you're serious about wanting to work on your guitars, look elsewhere.
