Not a pro pianist but a multi musician and very picky with guitar action, piano action
amd also sound. The two most important aspects of any instrument. I've spent hours trying a bunch of different ones in stores and this Korg just wins hands down in pretty much every regard. The sounds are incredible (samples), and not just the pianos but all the sounds. By comparison the equivalent Rolands and Casios have ok piano sounds but the rest aren't any good. This has decent samples of all. The big hitter here is the FOUR x 20w speakers. Two under and two over. The difference between this and the competition (which may have 2x20w at most) is day an night. This just resonates and feels deep like you're actually at a piano even at low volumes. Everything else sounds like a toy in this price range by comparison. I believe its the mix of excellent samples AND the speakers that do this.
Now foe the most important aspect to me - action. Spent HOURS comparing with competition and this wins. In short, Yamaha just too heavy. Roland (ph4 that gets good reviews for some reason) just feels sluggish and heavy and tiring and horrid. Casio is nice but black keys are either too light compared to white or too heavy depending on model. This thing just feels brilliant. Nice medium.action, lovely amd expressive. A joy to play on without being too light. Just brilliant.
Great amount of other sounds (DECENT not just thrown in for the stats), good control of parameters.
Stand looks classy open or shut. Sheet space across the whole top. Despite top speakers too. Great design!
Ppl talk about the minimal display and controls but 1) at least it has LED, 2) it looks classy, not like a digital keyboard on a stand and 3) is actually surprisingly quick and intuitive to use. Not had to look at the manual yet. Easy access to everything. Brilliant. Much better than the horrid buttons eg on the roland f701. Lovely analogue big volume control for example.
And not to mention USB, bluetooth etc for the modern age.
I love this thing.
I'm not too keen on speaker box meaning I can't push stool all the way in, and I wish it had one synth sound at least. And I really hate the stupid design of the lid which, while it looks and functions good, pushes back 4cm or so, so you have a lovely slim piano but you can't push it back against a wall it has to sit 3-4cm away from it. Really Really ridiculous design. Huge cockup by Korg!!!! Might as well have just had a deeper cabinet what we're they thinking!?? But overall not enough to knock off a star. Still 5* for me because it's still.v slim and sleek despite this design flaw.
