The holder is a surprisingly sturdy tool with a kind of suspension mechanism and padded fork, such that it does not risk damaging the violin whenever it is placed on the holder. The flexible gripping mechanism means that it is usable not only with music stands, but also with other stationary stable supports, as long as they feature a round pole that is thick enough (bot not too thick).
Do note that the holder is not suitable for light frame music stands such as most foldable stands (they do not provide a thick enough frame for gripping). Most orchestral stands should work fine. (I would also not recommend using it on a light stand even if the grip was funtional due to stability issues).
So I had previously bought a holder specifically for a Ukulele to mount my U-Bass on to mic stands when not in use but I found that the neck on my U-Bass was actually slightly too wide to fit comfortably and easily in the Uke Holder.
Then one evening I was performing with a fiddle player who had this holder and realized that my bass fit far better in this one so I added it to my wish-list immediately.
I'm very happy with this holder and how easy it's made my life now when performing with my U-Bass.
Strange that it does not have a specific hook to hang the bow. I use it for a mandolin as it seems slightly too wide for a violin. The attachment to a mic stand is very secure when tightened correctly
I bought the VH-1 violin holder after borrowing one from a friend.I paly guitar and mandolin and this little gadget is perfect for hannging the mandolin when I'm playing guitar. It is sturdy, has an adjustable clamp and will fit any microphone stand so the mandolin (or violin) is within easy reach. I'd recommend it highly. I used to use a floor stand for the mandolin but the VH-1 is far superior and makes it less likely that the mandolin will get kicked over. I wouldn't do without it.
This violin holder works well. It's sturdy and seems to be well made. The K&M violin holder is a better product, i used to have it but i lost it. It's very well made and has a little hanger for your bow! Which this millenium holder does not have. However, the k&m holder is nearly 3 times the price of the millenium one! If you get this holder you can just hang your bow off one of the tuning pegs on the violin. If you want a proper hanger and are willing to pay the extra money, go for the K&M holder.
Worked great for my mandolin and a friend used it on his guitar too, I got a second one for my guitar and now everything is out of the way hanging on the mic stand, these things work perfectly.
