I used similar handmade fingerboard protection pads for a simple fret leveling for a long time: they are not a panacea, but definitely can save your time and a fretboard.
These particular ones are somewhat flimsy and too ?generically-universal? to fit a guitar neck precisely, but they do their job, so if you don?t want to make such fret savers yourself, use these.
There are two of these things in a pack. Just bend one of them to a ?]-shape? to fit your guitar neck snugly, leave another flat, put some protective tape on the side metal contacts a fretboard, and you are ready to fix your frets.
