This is a great device for "warm-up" exercises to develop positive breathing before playing. Build quality and usability are perfectly suitable, as expected.
It is nice to toy with it for a while, I don't know what effect it will have on my breathing in the long run. Wait and see. Has to be washed after every use if you don't want a spray of spit in your face...
After using several different versions from several different teachers I decided to buy my own for health and safety reasons. Also, this is a great tool to help develop breath control for brass players.
I purchased this feeling very sceptical. A friend of mine recommended it so I thought I'd give it a go.
Practising after using the breath builder, I felt I could take proper relaxed, deeper breaths and sustain notes longer. It doesn't necessarily build your lung capacity, but it does help you to learn to breath deeper and in a relaxed way.
I have used this a few times - probably not regularly enough - but it seems to open up your lungs and improve capacity. I would have liked more complete instructions and hints, like which is harder: with holes open or closed? Is the aim just to keep the ball up as long as possible? How many minutes should I aim for? etc.
Breath control and fitness are often under rated and not often practiced.
This is a fun way to improve both and see improvement.
I'd recommend it to all wind players
