I have a book by Dan Erlewine, the man that made Albert King’s flying-V “Lucy,” and it recommends an easy tool that allows you to measure the circuitry with a potentiometer, which also allows you to measure your pickup-resistance. The tool basically consists of an instrument plug and wires with crocodile clamps that you can attach to your potentiometer lines.
I decided to attach banana plugs instead of the crocodile clamps, so I can stick them straight into my potentiometer. It allows me to quickly read the electronics of my guitar to see whether the wiring is in order, which is awesome. Good instrument plug for a great tool.
You can also use it for instrument cables. Either way, don’t forget your shrink wrap. That way you can easily make your own professional cables.
