Thomann Wind Gong 60

I own many other gongs; Paiste (up to 38") Meinls and others brought from the world, but not many bigger wind gongs ( I have some smaller from Thomann, they encouraged me to try bigger gong).
I was searching for strong but beautiful accent gong, something very open and splashy that stands out from other sounds - especially live - and this one is just truly amazing gong!

I was worried about the sound quality. Sound is great! If someone likes to use words like ‘professional,’ then yes, this gong sounds 'professional', sounds fantastic on the recording as well.
But just remember that it's simple wind gong, without a clear tone in the center, it opens up fast, you get accent or waterfall of splashes without getting into deep sonic harmonies. But this gong will turn this it simple accent splash into beautiful experience of power.
Size is perfect - you can still put it on regular cymbal holder.
It's truly fantastic instrument considering the price and lack of famous logo in the front.
I was comparing this one with Zildijan Wind gong and Meinl (Flower of Life), this one has most classic simple sound matched with optimal size in very good price.
Bigger gongs sounds a bit muddy and dark (different goal) while smaller sounds too bright and too high (too splashy) , this 60 cm is just fantastic balance of deep warm sound and brightness. It's responsive, washy with long warm sustain.
There is nothing to say negative, but to be honest - it looks a little bit poor, I am not the guy who cares much about logo but - why not to make at least logo more attractive ? I will remove it anyway. I mean, it could have something - a tiny thing - that makes this product more special and fancy.
This gong is worth that money, without any doubt.

I am a musician and Sound Therapist and I had toyed with buying one of Thomann’s wind gongs for over a year. Buying a gong unseen and unheard is taking a risk, doubly so if it is to be used with an established set up, and I already owned a number of gongs of various makes and types, from a 9” Burmese to a 28” Chao.

I’m pleased to report that the new addition didn’t disappoint. As with all new instruments it took time to get to know it: how to accentuate the fundamental or produce a shimmering wash, or to find its numerous sweet spots. The beater supplied with it is workmanlike and quite usable but switching to something larger and softer like a pair of Chalklin MS27M allows the full spectrum to develop, from dark dissonances to clearly singing harmonics.

I’ve now spent many hours playing it and I’m very happy with its voice and character and more especially how it sits with my set up. It’s clearly not a Paiste, but I think you’d be hard pushed to do better at the price.
