Bought this for my 11-year old son. He had been going to lessons for 6 months, and given his continued interest in drumming, we went ahead with the investment. We wanted an electronic drum set, to keep the noise levels down, especially to avoid annoying the neighbors!
Of course, you can still hear him drumming the sticks onto the pads, but this is the same noise level as when he "drums" his feet against the kitchen table legs (which he does often - he just can't stop drumming!)
As this is an electronic set, you need a pair of headphones to listen to the sounds being produced. We bought this as a set, so the headphones were included. We also have several headphone sets at home, and a splitter jack, so we can have two sets of headphones plugged in at the same time, and I can also hear him play. You could also connect loudspeakers, but we haven't got a set yet.
The standard assembly instructions were very clear. However, my son is left-handed, and it was quite hard to get the drums assembled for him. Only at the end of the instruction booklet, did we see a small diagram of what it should look like for left-handed users. It was frustrating that this was only shown at the end, as we had a lot of trial-and-error trying to figure it out before getting to that page. But at least we knew we had gotten it right; and now you know, so look at the end first!
All in all, a wonderful set, the sound is very clear, the set is compact so doesn't require a lot of space, and my son is delighted with it.
Highly recommended! Oh, and delivery was very quick.
