14. The Twelve-String Guitar

A special variant of the western guitar is the 12-string western guitar. Here, two strings are pressed down with one finger simultaneously. In general, the four lower strings (E, A, D, G) are doubled with octave strings. The two upper "courses" (B, E) are supported by identically tuned strings. If you want to produce an intriguing, ethereal sound, you should slightly detune one of the B strings and one of the thin E strings.
