2. Differences

Which system you choose depends mainly on your personal taste, on your audience (musical style), and, of course, on your budget. Generally, DJ systems can be divided into two categories: stystems with a spherical stylus and those with an elliptical stylus. Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages, which must be weighed up depending on the intended use.

Spherical stylus

A spherical stylus does fit the groove better, but does not offer the optimum sound volume. If you do not have the "spoilt" ears of an audiophile, or if you enjoy spinning the discs, this is probably the stylus for you. All beginners, but also experienced DJs for whom stabilty in the groove is an important consideration, should opt for this type of system.

Elliptical stylus

An elliptical (and more expensive) stylus, on the other hand, converts the information in the grooves into the best sound possible, but it also wears out the vinyl more. If you are always up-to-date with the sounds you mix, and if you do not perform experimental manoeuvres with your turntable, you will get an almost audiophile sound with an elliptical stylus. Club managers who want to make the utmost of their PA should opt for this type of system.
