Better than standard risers
Bashique 05.08.2016
I purchased this drum riser to replace the one that came with my Ludwig Breakbeats Kit. The Ludwig riser snapped after a years worth of gigging. I found that it was temperamental and difficult to use.
The Gibraltar riser however is the complete opposite. Not only is the build quality a lot better, it extends further, tightens easier, and has a better rubber grip for the bass pedal.
I use it to lift a 16" bass drum, however it does seem strong enough to lift any size bass drum.
This riser is noticeably heavier than the Ludwig version and I would therefore recommend taking it off of the drum when packing away. I was able to leave the Ludwig version attached to the 16" kick as I knew there would be no strain on the drum hoop. With the weight of the Gibraltar riser I can imagine it putting some stress on hoops when packed away.
I would highly recommend this riser. I've certainly had no issues with it. Note that if you do purchase this riser, you will need an Allen key to tighten the hoop clamps.

Very stong and works brilliantly
Michael8641 19.02.2018
I bought this to raise my Natal 18" kick drum a few inches so that the drum beater would hit the centre of the head. I had used the drum once in practice to try it and the beater of the kick drum pedal hit the drum very near the top and it wasnt that loud. Because of the length of the stem of the beater I could only lower it so much but that didnt work. The solution was very simple to buy this unit. The clamps hold the unit securly on the hoop and the hight of the unti can be adusted with two wing nuts. There are other cheaper units but having bought Gilbalter products in the past I knew it would be worth it as they are always very sturdy and up to the job. A good buy. Cant wait for the next gig to use it.

Terrible product, poor design I DO NOT RECOMMEND..
Buc 30.05.2023
As a professional musician touring around the world, I wanted to get that “almost” center beater sound from my 18 inch bass drum - which is why I actually bought the Gibraltar bass drum riser.

I mounted the riser and ensured that the screws that are fixing the clamps onto the hoop were screwed properly and tight. And now comes the part, where the issues due to the poor design came to the surface.

At first, the pedal spring reached its end due to the bad design of the pedal mount on the riser itself (the metal plate is too long), which causes the drummer to hit the pedal ALL the way in order to make the beater hit the drum head.
The second and most DISSPOINTING thing is that the whole product is sooo badly designed that the tiny screws underneath the clamps loosen after only 10 minutes of playing! Never the less, I did tighten them a couple of times using a Phillips screwdriver in order to save the shows.

And for the sole purpose of keeping the so called “bass drum riser” in a playable condition and try to make it work with my simple bop kit, I am now carrying a screwdriver wherever I go. And instead of playing, I’m wasting my time with this poorly designed product by Gibraltar.

Looks like I’ll sell it on eBay after all, and I surely will not recommend it to anyone.

Not for 18" Floor tom converted as bass drum
Stephane4242 13.06.2017
I had no idea that converting a 18" floor tom into a bass drum would be so painful. This bass drum riser is meant for bass drum (duh !), and it seems very solid and perfect until I fitted it to the hoop of the 18" tom and realised that the 2 clamps (tightened by the silver hex screws) are not clamping the hoop enough and just by few millimetres. One solution would be to insert a little strip of flexible plywood (5 millimetres thick) between the clamps and the hoop and that would probably be tight enough to hold, however this is not meant to be a DIY/home made project. I'm here to play drum with solid and reliable products and this product doesn't fit a thin Tama 18" floor tom hoop.
For anybody out there, there a gap in the market for properly and painlessly converting 16" and 18" floor toms into bass drums. This product is NOT one of them.
I recognised the solid build and heavy feel but it doesn't work for my needs.
Hope this review and my painful experience will help you if you intent to convert your floor toms in a bass drum.
