Any working drummer needs something like this and it's pretty much as described - a hard wearing carpet with a rubber base so it doesn't slip. We all have gigs where we have to play on wooden floors or less grippy surfaces or where you don't want to potentially damage a floor and so on. It also helps in the smaller venues and stages work out how to fit in the kit before you set it all up. You can also mark the rug with all the point where your hardware should be set up etc.
But is this the one you should buy?
I think so;
- the rubber base is grippy enough so that it will stay put, but not too grippy that you can't drag it (and the whole kit) along a floor if you really have to
- the carpet top is nice quality but also pretty hardwearing to withstand bass drum claws and so on
- I've been using this for well over a year in many gigs and if I clean it it looks just as good as the day I got it
- it's flexible and easily stowed using the attached velcro strap, even if you don't use the included bag, it'll fold in half for instance once rolled up
- the particular design is up to you, but this is simple and less 'loud' than the other Meinl ones, which means it will blend in and not be noticed
- it's a good overall size. I use a quite large single bass drum kit (3 sided rack with two floor toms on my right, secondary snare and other percussion on my left) and it almost completely fits on this rug, only just bleeding off the edges, anyone else will have no problem, but it's probably not quite big enough for big double kick kits
Overall, a great investment.
