tc electronic Brickwall HD-DT

I respect TC's products and have used them successfully for over 25 years. The Brickwall HD is a great concept and for me, the tactile and effortless hardware integration is very valuable, but there are three issues with this product as it currently stands, 1. The lack in Q.C. My unit was faulty and I have understood that several other users have experienced the same issue. 2. The hardware controller is too much like a toy. The buttons have no sense of authority and the display (when it actually works) have a lot of bleed and is therefore hard to read. The whole unit is also simply too small. 3. The actual limiter I found close to unusable as a mastering limiter on 90% of the material I've tried it on. Sonically it's nice and warm and the soft clipping feature handles the audio nicely when used in moderation, but the long release times on the limiter means that even at 1dB gain reduction you can hear it pumping. The algorithms used supposedly share genetics with the System 6000, but to my ears that is a many many branches away on the family tree. It is of course possible that future updates will improve this plugin and thus provide users with an adequate tool that can compete with likes of Ozone and PSP, but right now, it's a gimmick and have therefore no place in a professional studio.

The tc plugins are a bit harder on the cpu compared to other tools with the same features.
But I do love how this one sound. I mainly do Technomusic.
Did my 1st master with this and it sounded pretty different than any other Limiter i used. Gives like an instant Radio ready sound also the feature of getting the right Lufs is pretty handy in combination with the Clarity you can rock the perfect levels you need. I do recommend this one.

Zunächst mal: Der Limiter ist klasse. Der Algorithmus aus dem TC 6000 ist noch immer auf der Höhe der Zeit. Zusätzliche Features wie LUFS-Messung/Automation - grandios.
Wie mein Rezensionskollege hier auch schon geschrieben hat, hatte auch mein Display beim Erstgerät einen Wackelkontakt. Und was für einen. Es kann sein, dass meine Version aus einer Charge stammt, die an dieser Stelle fehlerhaft war/ist und ich hoffe, dass das Ersatzgerät diesen Fehler nicht mehr aufweist. TC electronic war für mich immer eine Marke der obersten Liga und hat sowohl Software-seitig wie Hardware-seitig großartige Produkte hergestellt. Sowas sollte eigentlich nicht passieren

Update: Thomann hat das defekte Gerät ausgetauscht. Jetzt läuft alles wie geschmiert. Für mich ist der Controller mehr als nur ein weiteres Gimmick auf dem Arbeitsplatz. Es ist, wie das DVR 250 (ebenfalls von TC), eine willkommene Erleichterung im Produktionsalltag und ein gut funktionierender Controller. Einziges Manko: Die Knöpfe könnten einen wertigeren Druckpunkt haben. Die Potis sind aber sehr wertig.
