Bought these to compare to Power Slinky's on my Jazzmaster.
With the vintage style floating tremolo system I was on the look out for strings that could provide the tension and tuning stability of .11's but with more flexibility on the higher strings for easier bends and lead playing.
To me, they're a good choice if you play in standard tuning and are used to 10s but want a bit more tension on the lower strings. Which helps if you occasionaly have to trop the low string down to D
The Ibanez semi-hollow I have is just about perfect in every way but came set up for (and wearing) Skinny Tops/Heavy Bottoms (actually D'Addario equivalent) which are great but I felt I needed slightly more manageable E,A and D strings, which is where these come in! The guitar feels ten times more fluid and the sound has opened out nicely. A great addition.
As good as any string but specifically picked these for the regular top end for easy bending while having added stability for the fast and hard metal stuff I like to play with 48 gauge bottom end.
I've always had to mix .11 and .10 string sets to get the string gauges I want. But now there's no need for that anymore!
The lighter top strings make playing leads easier while the heavier bottom strings have the right tension for heavy riffing.
They sound just like any other nickel wound string. Nothing special.
They wear average. The sound stays fresh for a week or so and after that they start sounding dull. ofcourse it depends on how much your hands sweat and on your skin. Also on how much you play and how heavy you fret/play the strings.
I'm a heavy metal player, playing 1-2 hours a day, quite a heavy hitter and like i said these strings sound fresh for about a week, maybe 2.
In conclusion: These are just your standard strings, nothing fancy. good quality. But finally at the right string gauge.
