While the two pots and one encoder for programming patches are not the most comfortable, and the membrane "keyboard" is downright unplayable, the nts-1 really makes up for it with it's sound. It is essentially the same algorithm used in the monologue but with really, and I mean REALLY nice effects. Skipping the whole synthesizer bit and just getting is as an fx processor for external gear is more than plausible. One annoying characteristic is that the headphone output is at the front instead of the back, where all the other connections are, making it a little harder to incorporate it into existing setups, especially ones that make use of stand or racks. Still, it's a great product that, for the price, makes for a great first synth or gift.
