I use mine for a Allen & Heath Zed14. The case offers enough protection for pub & club gigs. It is much larger than the mixer but the space isn't wasted; I keep a 3 socket extension lead at the top and 2 five-metre cables in the sides.
The lid stays attached but one only has to lift the desk and prop it on the foam at the back and everything is accessible. I would appreciate a second handle on one of the long sides but honestly ... You have to really consider what one wants for this price; flight-cases with detachable lids cost significantly more and if you are a plain old regular pub/club gigger, this will serve you well.
This is good value for a well build and solid case which has provided complete protection for my ZED-12fx whilst it is not in use and during travel to and from rehearsals and gigs. The case itself is somewhat larger all round than the desk itself and the inside is divided into 4 sections by sturdy padded foam inserts which are very well glued in to the base of the case. The largest section is where the desk itself sits and the 3 smaller sections are available to carry small accessories or a few short cables (for example the desk power cable) if desired. The desk fits very snugly into its padded section and doesn't move at all ensuring good all round protection. The lid contains a softer foam insert which sits nicely on the upper surface of the desk.
A couple of minor niggles about not being able to leave the desk in the case when it is in use (which is nice to have imo as it helps to protect the desk at a venue). Firstly the desk cannot be left in its travelling position in the case whilst in use as the upper foam insert does not have an opening for the power lead. The desk can however be tilted and rested on the upper foam insert. This can be fixed by hacking a chunk out of the foam but owners may not wish to do that. Secondly when placed on a sloping mixer stand the lid doesn't stay open. It would have been nice if the lid either opened a bit further so it would stay open by itself, or had a stay to hold it open, or was removable.
For its primary purpose of protecting the desk in storage and in transit then it does a first class job. If not being able to leave the desk in the case at the venue doesn't bother you (or you don't mind hacking the case around a bit so you can) then I would definitely recommend this case at the price.
