Nothing bad with Vandoren blue themselves. They just are not my piece of cake.Too stiff and unresponsive for my taste in any strenght. I can go softer but they keep to not sing and resist to my efforts to play for me. But that is me, for others are fantastic.
Among simple basic reeds I stay for sure with Rico orange box or gonzalez.
I have always used vandoren reeds, as you get better with your playing you will find that these reeds are so reliable at giving you the tone and sound you’re looking for.
I am using vandoren for many years now.
I like the way they are played easily.
The sound is also very nice.
The only change I made since I first started playing the saxophone, is to switch from 1.5 to 2 and lastly to 2.5.
Not completely satisfied with the plastic protection case they are shipped in but as a saxophone player who always carries a hard case with him, why should I care?
These are the classics, You can make these do whatever you want if you hang in there. However I have had some inconsistency issues with these. Some boxes not even 50% are good players.
THE French reed. Works perfectly with Selmer mouthpieces, Yanagisawa mouthpiece and others with a French facing curve . Best known as a classical reed but can be used for Jazz as well. The 2 1/2 strength works well with a Selmer F mouthpiece, for me.
My first reed was Vandoren Classic Blue Tenor 2.5, i tried many other reeds afterwards in 5 years but i couldnt find anything better then this. All round, great sound.
