I was delighted to discover that Thomann sold individual Elixir strings as well as sets. With most sales outlets it is not always the case especially on an island out in the Atlantic, where I am based. I now buy 10 sets at a time plus 6 first and 6 second strings and I'm covered for months rather than weeks across my guitar collection.
