Kenton Merge 8

All I can say is that coloured midi cables are the solution if you're dealing with many hardware synths in your studio. I use white midi cables to connect my synths to the midi output of my Synthstrom Deluge sequencer (a very versatile sampler/sequencer in one dedicated device) via a Kenton THRU-12. I use the other available colours of the sssnake midi cables for sending the midi outputs of my hardware synths via a Kenton MERGE-8/4 combo to the midi in of the hardware Deluge sequencer. Each synth has its own midi cable colour. Same colours for synths when one is to the left andcthe other is to the right of the Kenton MERGE-8/4 combo.

One drawback is that the merger mixes midi clocks. I have two Korg Prologues that keep sending midi clock messages. I solved that problem by using an Arduino Uno with a Midi Shield running a Midi Clock messages suppressor coded with the help of ChatGPT. Very simple code.

Als ich mich für das Kenton Merge 8 entschieden habe und nicht für die kleinere Version, lag das vor allem daran, dass man entweder 8 MIDI-Sender zu 1 Sender (=1x8 Inputs) verknüpfen, oder zwei separate MIDI-Schleifen (2x4 Inputs) verwenden kann. Außerdem sind die Kosten pro Anschluss natürlich niedriger, als mit 2 x Kenton MIDI Merge. In meinem Setup sieht das so aus:

-Schleife A: Synthesizer mit Tastaturen, Keyboards, Drumtrigger, im Prinzip alle Eingabegeräte
-Schleife B: Synthesizer ohne Tastaturen, die hauptsächlich zur Klangerzeugung dienen, aber auch MIDI senden können, z.B. Arpeggien und Dumps

Durch die Trennung von A und B kann man Geräte in B anspielen, ohne dass es Endloskreise gibt (die PANIC-Taste am Keyboard lässt nicht mehr grüßen...).

Bisher hatte ich keine Probleme mit dem System, es läuft und macht das was es soll, ganz nach dem Prinzip "ein Mal bauen, nie mehr darüber nachdenken". Also keine Dropouts, Fehler oder hörbare Verzögerungen/Latenzen.

Von der Verarbeitung her ist es dem "kleineren Bruder" identisch.
