I bought this microphone to use with my Canon EOS in May. I have now used it on a few occasions and have not been disappointed with this brilliant product.
The microphone is a shotgun with a tight a pick up making it great when filming at a distance. It also features built-in pad and high pass switches allowing it to be used in close range.
The addition of Rycote shock mount makes using it fixed on the camera straight forward and with out having to worry about unwanted sound being recorded.
I personally have been using the microphone to record live music with great results. This is due to the wide frequency response of 40Hz-20kHz.
Overall, if you are looking for a good quality microphone at a reasonable price, then I would highly recommend this one. The unit has a robust built quality, the shock mount is a great addition and Rode offer a 10 year warrant.
I bought this as a christmas present for an aspiring photographer with and interest in video i have yet to give ut to them but i tryed it out myself. Its a shotgun microphone so the sound source as very auidle and removes quite a bit of outside noise. The dead cat is great and stops wind and pops as it should. The best feature on this is the shockmount, it moves quite freely when moved and makes no noise, the downside to this is the 9 volt battery needed to run the microphone. The cover is also hard to remove and some of it feels quite flimsy because of the plastic so make sure it wont be dropped. They really should have included some sort of bag or case to leave this in as it can easily break.
Iv been recording videos for a while and using a GoPro Hero 4 and Canon EOS 700D, I needed my videos to have that bigger sense of professionalism and my purchasing the Rode VideoMic that's exactly what I got.
The design of it is excellent and sits perfectly into the hot shoe mount. Also the Rycote shock mount absorbs any accidental bumps so the mic doesn't pickup any unwanted sounds.
Even when I was filming at a racing circuit with plenty of ambient sound the shotgun Mic was able to pick up the people I interviewed perfectly and the roars of the engine's behind me pretty much a distant rumble.
One recommendation I would have to potential and current buyers is to carry a spare 9 volt battery as it doesn't take a power source from the camera. I store it in the original box it came in to protect it from getting damaged as this doesn't include a carry case.
