I am a mobile DJ who does a lot of weddings and similar events.
2019. I bought Turbosound iX15 active speakers, because I wanted something a little more modern looking and with Bluetooth enabled.
From the first time I used it, I was very pleased with the sound from the lowest gain level to the higher gain level.
The speaker sound like it is already equalized at the factory, very deep and pleasant bass, with perfect high and mid tones. It's a real pleasure to listen to all kinds of music through this speaker, it's always a great result.
From low to high volume, the sound is always centered and the bass, middle and highs stay together. No need for EQ adjustment at higher volume.
The construction is of high quality, the speaker is nicely designed, it is quite sturdy and weighs 23 kg, which is not a problem for me to carry.
I would say that the speaker has about 400w RMS power, and the max power is 1000w. It is excellent for smaller spaces and events for 50-100 people.
Most of my events are such events, that's why I use them in 90% of all events.
For larger events and spaces, additional 15"-18" woofers are needed to amplify the bass, midrange and treble are strong enough to handle events of up to 200 people in addition to the woofers.
I haven't had any problems with the speakers yet, they work like the first day without any problems. The highest volume they work on is 0 db on speaker, 3/4 max on mixer.
The speakers are easy to use, the menu on the display is simple, easy to adjust, and literally every time you turn them on and use them immediately.
I bought protective covers from Thomann that are really perfect for the speaker. After 3 years of constant use, the speakers look like new. Excellent protection.
I compared the sound with the slightly stronger model IQ15, there is no difference in sound quality, the IQ model is a little louder, but not that much and I have never needed such a louder speaker in my DJ performances.
In the meantime, I compared the speaker with the RCF 715A - MK IV and the Yamaha DBR 15.
RCF has SPL 130 db and Yamaha 131 db. Turbosound IX15 is 126 db......but when you put them next to each other and compare the sound, there is no big difference, neither in volume nor in quality. The Yamaha seems to be able to get a little louder.
Turbosound and Yamaha sound cleaner and sharper, while RCF has a slightly less sharp sound.
Turbosound IX15 is the heaviest, but in terms of appearance and materials, as well as the highest quality speaker of all three.
All three boxes are in the same price range, each has its own advantages and disadvantages, but since I own all three models, time will show some differences that I will publish here in a few months.
Edit 08/2023:
After 50 weddings and other events that I have done in the last year, this is what I decided to do:
I sold the RCF 715 speakers, because in the sound category they are the worst of all three I have. I have no use for them.
For smaller weddings of 50-100 people, I use the Turbosound iX15 myself, because in the sound quality category they are better than both the Yamaha DBR 15 and the RCF 715.
I sold the DBR15 Yamaha and bought DXR 12 through Thomann, which I use in combination with DXS18XLF woofers, also bought on Thomann. It's my go-to kit for larger weddings and events of up to 300-400 people. The sound quality of Yamaha is better than RCF, but not better than Turbosound. I don't need 2 sets of 15" speakers, that's why I sold them and bought 12" to work with 18" woofers.
My friend bought the RCF 915 speakers, so we did a comparison. The Turbosound iX15 has a better sound than the RCF 915 speaker. The sound is simply more pleasant, although the RCF 9 series has a better sound than the 7 series. The RCF915 is a little louder than the Turbosound, just a little. Turbosound has such a clear and defined sound from soft and strong bass, all the way to mids and crystal clear treble, it's hard to beat. At high gain, both speakers hold up well, without distortion. Although Turbosound does not have the declared Fir-phase technology.
It's hard to beat this sound quality from Turbosound in this price range.
In the last 4 years I have done about 150 events with Turbosound iX15, I have never had any problems. Reliable and do not break.
