I play jazz in small combos and also big band. I love the Vater hickory Super Jazz sticks, so decided to get a pair in the maple wood. I've had my hickory ones for a couple of years, but I notice that the maple version has a completely different tip profile and I think a slightly thicker neck. So be aware that this tip shape difference (plus the difference in wood type) will mean you get a different tone from your cymbals. That said, I like these maple sticks. Like their hickory siblings, they have a long taper which throws the balance/fulcrum point back a bit towards the butt end, and they feel quick on the ride cymbals.
