After hearing all the great reviews about revstar lineup I decied to buy one for myself. Let's start with pros:
+ Guitar sounds great, nice sustain and those P90s are really cool
+ beautiful body shape
+ guitar neck is comfortable, I also like that it's satin
+ revstars come with elixir strings and nice gigbag
Now for the cons. This will take a little bit longer:
- I had to replace this particular model 2 times. First one I received had warped, twisted neck (don't confuse it with neck relief) which for me personally is unacceptable. It also had 9 uneven frets and some notes would quickly fade while bending.
- Second one was a little bit better (still had some uneven frets but it was ok) but it had sloppy finish. That guitar was painted unevenly. I mean, come on, you have to try really hard to screw up a paint job, especially when you hang the guitar and spray it across the whole body.
- Third guitar I recieved has a really dry neck and MANY uneven frets. Fortunately neck isn't warped and paint job is okay. String action was very high (maybe it was setup this way so customer wouldn't notice string buzz due to uneven frets).
- All 3 guitars had some scratches on the binding, glue marks, frets were scratchy
- In my opinion focus switch is completely useless
- Nut could be cut better (but it was acceptable)
Summary:
Yamaha Revstar RSS02T offers a lot of nice features for the money but unfortunatelly doesn't deliver them in a satisfactory way. It has great potential but due to poor finish, QC and execution can easily scare away potential customer. Paying 1/3 of guitar price (about 230 euros) to fix 800 euro guitar is outrageous. It's heavily disappointing;. Maybe I was unlucky, I don't know. A lot of people seem to praise those instruments for their quality. Sadly, I didn't experience that. It's a shame, because revstars sound and look beautiful.
